I didn't hit my reading goal in 2025 (Read 24 books in 2025), but the goal was honestly just for me to keep track of, I didn't push hard.
I read mostly fiction in 2025--mostly as I fell asleep at night time. It's a habit I picked up in 2020 and that I have come to love and rely on.
Nevertheless, I want to read more non-fiction in 2026. My life and work in 2025 brought me to the point where I realized in almost every aspect of life I have "enough", but I don't quite feel content. I want to dig into that feeling. I know it sounds trite--but "what is the meaning of life?" is a question that kept coming to me throughout the year.
When life isn't about getting the next raise or buying the next thing of saving up for something--when life is about showing up each day and living--how do you keep it interesting? How do you have an interesting inner life? How can I be a better father? Where can I give more of myself to others? What is the real nature of our world today as opposed to what each person's social media feed shoves in their face repeatedly each day? How can I cultivate optimism in myself and others and stand against the doomerism that so many take for granted when we live in a time of abundance.
Those are the questions I want to spend time on this year, and these are some books that strike my fancy towards those ends:
