Building Backlinks

Tags:

I've learned a lot about SEO over the past year working on ColorBliss (my tool for making AI generated coloring pages, and I'm really happy with what I've been able to pull off so far!

At one point during the year, I was pulling in thousands of visits from organic search per day! It was awesome.

Key word being "was", because after I migrated my domain from .art to .com, my search traffic and rankings tanked! This was more than a bit depressing, since most of my sales and revenue comes from organic traffic. And I also thought migrating to the .com would improve my organic traffic over the long term (still hoping that will be the case!).

Before the domain transfer and traffic plunge, my previous strategy was basically:

  1. build a good product
  2. build landing pages around keywords I wanted to rank for
  3. iterate on the landing pages
  4. get some backlinks from directories

Now I'm focusing on this a bit different. My product didn't change. My landing pages didn't change. But my domain changed - and so now I'm going to focus on building backlinks to build up my domain authority and take back some of my #1 positions on main keywords.

I'm planning to keep this as a running log of the sites / places I'm using to create backlinks, for my own reference, and also to help Google crawl them when I've added them 😜

start.me

I've created a few different pages with links to various projects I'm working on.

A general one, for the home pages of projects I'm working on, is here: What I'm working on.

I also created one for ColorBliss pages and one for Hotels for Kids pages.

Start.me has an authority score of 44.

flickr

I created a profile on Flickr, and added a site to my profile there.

SEMRush authority score is 80, so could potentially be a big boost, I think?

The profiles are public, and each profile has 1 link you can use as a backlink. I'm using hotelsforkids.net in my profile, which is here: https://flickr.com/people/benrobertsonio/.

allmyfaves.com

Allmyfaves.com has an authority score on SEMRush of 31.

It's easy enough to create an account, and then add links to it.

Here's my page: https://allmyfaves.com/benrobertsonio?tab=benrobertsonio

I added links to ColorBliss, [[Hotels For Kids]], and my start.me pages - for example: What I'm Working on.

The idea behind adding the start.me pages is that it will help Google index those pages and then crawl those backlinks.

Feels a little gimmicky to me, but still gonna try it out.

folkd

Creating an account on folkd (folkd.com) is easy and quick.

SEMRush gives it an authority score of 33.

I signed up for a free account, which looks like you can only add up to 5 links a month. Should be fine for me for now. I added links for:

I guess I'll report back at some point to see if these get picked up by google and if I start ranking higher?

tumblr

I created a tumblr page for ColorBliss. I read that image posts are follow backlinks?

Not quite sure how that works.

Added one post, and need to add some more posts for product / landing pages.

about.me

Here's my about.me page. I've actually had this page for years, maybe over a decade.

Doesn't look like it is in google's index at the moment.

Authority score is 54 in SEMRush.

All the links on the page appear to be nofollow. We'll see if it gets picked up.

saashub

ColorBliss has been on SaasHub for a long time, but I just reverified on [[2024-07-26]] and added some more links to the profile: https://www.saashub.com/colorbliss-art

Authority score is 39.

stripe climate

I joined stripe climate on [[2024-07-25]], and published a webpage about it, available here: https://climate.stripe.com/uB0CD8 and as a page on ColorBliss - Climate Pledge.

climate.stripe.com has an authority score of 76.

g2

created an account, but don't see any backlinks listed

ted.com

I created a profile on Ted.com and added a few backlinks there.

Looks like they are nofollow, SEMRush Authority Score is 73.
