A few weeks ago I picked up a new amplifier for my guitar. Rather I should say a new to me amplifier.

It's a Yamaha THR30ii wireless amplifier. I've been playing guitar since I was thirteen and in those years I guess almost fifteen years I have always used my little practice Peavey amp that I got when I was 13, my Rage 158.

I decided it was time to upgrade to something a little nicer. The AMP is a desktop amplifier. So it's very small. but it has a lot of modeling settings where you can model the sound of other amps or some guitar effects.

There's an iPhone app that you can use to dial in all the settings, and you can load presets. Some people on Reddit have compiled large spreadsheets of a bunch of different presets. And that's cool, but a little bit unwieldy.

So I was excited when I found this site that lets you put in your guitar model and just a blank empty text area where you describe the sound that you're going for, and it will give you a diagram of the settings for you to dial in. And even cooler, it will let you download the configuration file to preload that onto your amp.

I've used it to help me dial in a sound close to John Mayer's sound with Dead and Company. And then also something similar to Jerry Garcia. So I've liked that so far. It really didn't get a Stone Temple Pilot sound when I tried that. It totally missed that. So I'm not sure if that is my fault or how it's figuring those things out.

But overall a really cool little AI implementation!
