Using Netlify's AI Agent Runner for ColorBliss
The Netlify team reached out to me a few weeks ago to be a beta tester for their new AI Agent runner features.
The feature lets you run Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini agents straight from your Netlify dashboard. I found it to be helpful to ship small tweaks / changes when I was away from my keyboard.
Some things I would like to see them improve / add on as they develop the feature more would be more around notifications and integration with Github.
Since I'm kicking off asynchronous runners, I would like to be notified when there is something for me to review. I found I had to check back into my dashboard to figure out when the runner was completed.
There was also an extra step where I would have to create a PR from the dashboard after reviewing the diff in the Netlify dashboard. I'd prefer the runner to go ahead and create the PR directly for me to review in Github. Interestingly, when I gave this feedback, the product team said they aren't wanting to have too tight an integration with Github because not everyone is using Github or Deploy Previews. I think this means that they are focusing more on the "vibe" side of vibe coding, meaning that they want to support people who aren't using version control. It's less friction for sure, but it's not going to fit in as well with their existing developer-focused product in my opinion.
It will be interesting to see where they take it. Seems like Netlify is actually in a pretty good position to gain marketshare as a more neutral party to the AI scene (unlike Vercel who has more skin in the AI game with v0 and their AI SDK).
Anyway, here's a link to their announcement post--check it out to see a quote from me about using it for ColorBliss!
